Season Extension at Og

Monday, October 7, 2013 // Staff

For many New England vegetable farmers, the growing season winds down as nighttime frosts become a regular occurrence. That's usually the case on New Entry's incubator farm sites in Dracut, Mass., but this year Incubator Farm Coordinator Eero Ruuttila helped to make sure a season extension option would be available. With the help of the farmers who will be using it, the hoophouse at Ogonowski Memorial Fields has a brand new skin (6 mil plastic, in case you were wondering) and is ready for farmers to grow greens or other high-value crops well beyond the regular growing season. Check back in a couple months when the first snow is falling outside and greens are growing cozily in the hoophouse!
